Many of you have shown interest in my post Stories of Empathy & Compassion. For those of you seeking some additional inspiration, I give you two more books to consider …

1. Gideon’s Gift (The Red Gloves Collection #1) by Karen Kingsley and
2. The Quiltmaker’s Journey by Jeff Brumbeau.

The Quiltmaker’s Journey is a picture book about a girl, born into wealth, who had everything, yet felt something was missing. Despite the warnings of her elders, she finds her way out of the walled town to meet many poor but generous people. Deciding she wants to help them, she returns to her town hoping to share her fortune with the poor, but the elders say she must leave with nothing. And so, she sets out with only the clothes on her back and her mother’s ring. She wanders, wondering what gift she could give, and after coming upon a mother and son huddled together on the streets for warmth, she sells her mother’s ring, settles on a mountaintop, and creates for the family a quilt to let them know that someone, somewhere in the world, cares for them. An inspiration to all those of us still trying to discover the gift we have to give.

Gideon’s Gift (The Red Gloves Collection #1) is a novel about a young girl, struggling with leukemia, that dreams of a perfect Christmas … when Christmas miracles happen for those who believe. Her small but generous gift to a homeless man at the local mission changes more than one life. I won’t give the whole story away on this one. You’ll have to read it. Highly Recommended. Be prepared to shed tears of both sadness and joy.
