I have over three years experience soliciting grants for a small city in Broward County, Florida. I am located in South Florida, and I have a special interest in arts- and environment-related grant opportunities. I have applied for and administered funding from the following agencies: the U.S. Department of Energy, the Department of Homeland Security, the USDA, the NEA, Florida's departments of transportation, emergency management and environmental protection, the South Florida Water Managment District and Broward County Department of Natural Resouces. I'd be happy to receive referrals for freelance grant work involving government applications - thanks!

I've been a consulting grant writer since 1998. I like to work with a contracted client over a longer period of time because I can give them a better hourly rate. If they want one only one grant, my contract requires half as a deposit and the rest due before the grant is submitted.

If a nonprofit is an annually contracted client, they pay a set fee monthly (sometimes twice monthly, depending on what works best for them). This fee is paid in advance of the work being done, and they receive a reconciliation invoice at the end of the month. I used to have the clients pay at the end of the month, but on several occasions I did not receive the final payment, so I changed to requiring a retainer, which works well for all.

Monthly contracts include research and a set number of grants to be written within 12 months.
